Conscious Chatter is the culmination of many of my talents + passions. As a trained international journalist and storyteller, I'm always searching for more engaging ways to connect with everyday people about the state of the fashion industry, and how we can all work to improve it for the future. The audio medium has a powerful way of allowing people to tune in and join an unfamiliar conversation without feeling overwhelmed. I believe audio is one of the best ways to bring more people into the sustainable fashion conversation.

As a sustainability & storytelling consultant, I work with brands to help identify ways for them to begin the journey toward reimagining their supply chain, by centering their environmental and human impact. Not only do I assist in adjusting business practices and behaviors, but I also craft authentic stories and transparent narratives that reflect the work they’re doing behind the scenes.

The 1to1 Movement is a nonprofit that exists to inspire and simplify sustainability in daily life. They do this through: education - introductory workshops and programs for people who are just starting to rock a sustainable lifestyle, and engagement - hands-on initiatives that support people in taking sustainability to the next level. I was proud to serve as a board member.

Fashioning Change, Santa Monica/San Diego, CA | July 2011-March 2013

Sourcing Coordinator

As the Sourcing Coordinator with a small startup team, I filled various roles, including outreach and curation of new sustainable designers, approving socially responsible processes behind new brands' supply chains and the materials within their design process. Additionally, my responsibilities included coordinating email marketing campaigns and the creation of standalone ‘looks’ for the website.

The Green Shows, New York City, NY | August 2012-December 2012

production, curation + PR

In the Fall of 2012, The Green Shows made its Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center debut for a presentation of eight RTW designers and nine accessories designers. During my time with the GreenShows, I assisted with press outreach, curation of brands featured, and the production of this event. In addition, I conducted on-camera interviews with high profile guests and designers who were included in the MBFW presentation.

Freelance Contributor

Based in New York City at the time, I covered events in the City, and wrote a weekly column called "Threaded", which focused on the clothes we buy and the clothes we're already wearing.

Content Production

In coordination with Founder Greta Eagan, I helped produce content for clients of FashionMeGreen, including blog posts about ethical fashion and natural beauty. I also assisted with social media execution.

Working closely with Founder Jill Fehrenbacher, I helped drive the business operations for Inhabitat & Ecouterre, including the integration of ad campaigns and development of online contests. Additionally, I wore a hat as a writer for both Inhabitat and Ecouterre.

Fulbright Scholarship, Madrid, Spain | August 2008-July  2009

It was with great honor that I received a Fulbright Scholarship. This allowed me the opportunity to connect with other Fulbright scholars, to live in Madrid, Spain for a year, to travel and to work and learn from other educators in a primary school system outside of the city. 

People Tree, London, England | March 2008-August 2008 

Intern with Public Relations Department

My experience at People Tree was monumental. Given the opportunity to work closely with the PR Manager at the time, Antony Waller, I was in a position to absorb as much information as possible about building a more ethical fashion world. I was also able to learn from Founder Safia Minney, who honored me with the opportunity to speak on People Tree's behalf at a conference focused on fair trade in Wales. 

Camp AmeriKids, Warwick, NY | July 2009-July 2014

Volunteer

Camp AmeriKids' mission is to "enhance the lives of city youth by providing a traditional summer camp experience, year-round skill building and supported transition into adulthood." For several summers, I worked as either an arts and crafts teacher or a cabin leader with the children, who are aged 7-15, and either infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

My studies at Hamline University included three distinct experiences for an undergraduate program:

1. Internship with El Diario Austral newspaper [Valdivia, Chile]

2. The Reorganization Of The Chilean Social Imaginaire, Research Project + Thesis [Valdivia, Chile]

   Formulated through research gathered in Chile during study abroad experience. Provides evidence of the ways in which young Chileans’ mentalities have transformed since the incorporation of a legal divorce procedure in 2004. Defended by interviews with academics, student focus groups, and textual analysis of legal & media documents.
   * Presented at National Conference on Undergraduate Research in April 2007 [Dominican University, San Rafael, CA]

3. Internship with KFAI Radio [Minneapolis, Minnesota]

   Coverage of local hard news stories & editing of audio segments
   * Hosted the Monday evening news report
